ORILLIA - A prominent developer says his run for the Orillia mayor’s seat is being driven by a need for new ideas.
“I believe significant change is needed within our community, and to effect that change one must get involved or it simply does not happen,” Angelo Orsi said. “As a large business owner, it is a natural carryover to top position, one that I believe is important to effect the change needed in our community.”
The local man says he hopes his entry in the coming municipal election will inspire others to become involved.
“There is a lot of work to be done, and what a better way in demonstrating leadership (than) by getting in early and hopefully getting others engaged in the process,” he added.
Orsi said he would outline his priorities as part of a platform, to be announced at a later date.
“I cannot say it was a particular issue (that prompted him to run), but it was the sum of all,” he said. “However, the waste of our hard earned tax dollars irked me the most. I did have some close business friends ask, however I did not seriously consider it. I guess the seed grew.”
If elected mayor, Orsi said he would refrain from participating in discussions related to development if he is in any way connected to the development in question.
“Naturally, if I or any relation to me has an application before council, I would declare a conflict and excuse myself from the issue,” he said.
