Prime location for Super 8

Whirlpool suites may be better suited for adults, but those with youngsters can take advantage of the family suites at Super 8 Midland that come equipped with bunk beds and an Xbox 360.

The Super 8 Midland prides itself on being the most accommodating of accommodations.
When a group of women recently booked in, they were looking for fun despite the off-season of the summer-fun community.
Manager Tibor Haasz partnered with area health and wellness practitioners to put together a spa day in the hotel’s meeting room, which can accommodate 24 to 40 people depending upon configuration. He was also able to arrange the necessary audio-visual equipment.
A group of golfers did take advantage of the area’s summer playground, but had the hassle of post-celebration transportation to manage. Haasz worked with a local cab company to put together a seamless package that delighted the link-lovers upon their return booking.
“Basically we do anything we can to accommodate guest requests,” says Haasz, whose facility enjoys a much higher-than-average customer-satisfaction profile.
Located on highway 93 near the malls, cinemas and other major retailers, the Super 8 Midland is only a couple of kilometres from the waterfront and the downtown core. As the newest hotel property in the area, it retains a fresh look and enjoys a natural view to the back wooded lot.
Interested in maintaining the hotel’s cutting edge, Haasz continues to seek improvements.
The indoor chlorine pool and hot tub, available for hotel guests and to visiting birthday parties, are set to be switched to salt water, he cites as an explain. “And I have to install four amplifiers for wireless throughout the whole hotel.”
Currently, high-speed internet is available through a wired connection in all guest rooms and is wireless in all public areas. Both upgrades are set to happen this year.
“I got here before the walls were up,” recalls Haasz, who opened the hotel in July 2007. Coming to Midland from an eight-year stint in Barrie, he has been in the hospitality for 22 years, having started as a bellman in Toronto at age 14.
The 65-room Super 8 has traditional rooms and 15 suites, four of which are geared for families with an oasis for children who can enjoy bunk beds and an Xbox 360.
“Those are a big hit in the summer,” says Haasz.
One-bedroom executive suites with whirlpool tubs are also available.
All rooms come equipped the fridges, microwaves, coffee maker, hair dryers, ironing boards and irons, he adds. The entire hotel is smoke free and there are rooms designed for wheelchair accessibility.
The Super 8 Midland is also a pet-friendly environment, with common household animals welcome to stay with their families on the first floor.
Corporate travellers can take advantage of the business centre near the front desk which provides computers, printing, faxing and copying facilities. Coffee and tea are available 24/7.
A fully equipped fitness centre is available with a television to wind down after meetings are over.
Although there is no restaurant on site, there is an upgraded complimentary continental breakfast provided for all guests, which includes a make-in-yourself Belgian waffle station, hard-boiled eggs, baked goods, fresh fruit and a wide selection of juices.
Using community partners, Haasz is happy to provide catering services for those using the meeting room.
For corporate function planners requiring more meeting space, Haasz says he often partners with the nearby Brooklea Golf & Country Club which has full conference and banquet facilities.
