Medium with a message. Real estate agent Manuel Antunes' sign urges people to vote on Oct. 14.

Wasaga Beach real estate broker Manuel Antunes is taking a jab at voter apathy this week.

Antunes has posted a new message on the sign at his Mosley Street brokerage, urging people to get out and vote in the federal election now underway.

One side of the sign reads, "Canada is growth, unity, hope, peace", on the other: "Keep freedom alive. Vote Oct. 14. Vote."

Antunes said he is appalled by low voter turnout in Canada.

According to Elections Canada, voter turnout in the last federal election on Jan. 23, 2006, was 64.7 per cent. In the 2004 federal election, voter turnout was at 60.9 per cent.

"Everybody takes everything for granted," said Antunes.

"I travel around the world where people wish they have the same opportunities we have here."

Antunes has a use-it-or-lose-it attitude.

He urges people to get out and vote.
